Christmas is the time of joy and selecting a Christmas tree can be real fun. Most of us think that bringing a real Christmas tree is a huge task to undertake but there is something special in these trees. But if you have made up your mind to get one, you should keep some important things in mind before purchasing a Christmas tree.

A lot of evergreen varieties are grown and are cut for Christmas trees. But some of the best are Silver Fir, Norway spruce, Noble Fir, Balsam Fir, Fraser Fir, Douglas, Scotch pine and Stones pines. A fact that many people shy from buying these beautiful trees due to their high price.

Plantation grown Douglas fir is very dramatic and fuller in their appearance which are grown in the Pacific Northwest whereas trees which are grown in forests are somewhat thin but both of these qualities have a pleasant fragrance of their own and they also holds their needle well. The White fir is the freshest of them all and is the earliest breed available for purchase. The Scotch pine is grown in the upper Midwest, though it is a full needled tree but has a tendency to drop them. Generally, they are not fragrant like Douglas firs.     

Try to decide the place where you want to put your tree which will help you to determine about the treeâ??s size and width. Try to keep away the tree from any heat source and place it in some cooler place. While selecting a Christmas tree, check about its freshness. If the tree appears dry or brown then it indicates that it may have been cut too early. If the tree smells good, then it is fresh except the Scotch pine which does not have any fragrant. If the needles of the Christmas tree are coming out then it is not a fresh one.

Christmas trees need great care. If you take good care of these trees, may be it can survive for 2 years or more. Immediately after buying the tree if you cannot put it inside your house, try to place it somewhere where the temperature is cooler. Make a 2 inch cut in the trunk on the bottom and place it instantly in the water. Do check the moisture levels of the tree frequently as it absorbs up to a gallon of water daily. Last but not the least do not use lights and cords that are old or in bad condition. Keep the tree away from heat and use non-combustible labeled decorations. Following these simple steps can make your Christmas delightful and buying a Christmas tree can make your festival memorable.
